From the booklet:
The term medieval is used to define the period from the fall of the Western Roman Empire (476) to the discovery of America (1492). Those one thousand years initially marked by barbarian invasions and the collapse of civil institutions. Then came the rise of the Holy Roman Empire, kingdoms and, in Italy, the city-states. The dark and disturbing atmosphere passed down through romantic literature can only be attributed to the early Middle Ages. The late Middle Ages have a brighter aspect, marked by the rebirth of the arts, philosophy and sciences. It is the second period that inspired Guido Zibordi to paint the Medieval Tarot. These 78 cards, in fact, recall the magnificence of the princely courts and pastimes of courtiers, the battles of the Crusades, the solitary study of philosophers and discussions of theologians, the daily work and beliefs of the common people. - Reviews (0)
